About the Smithsonian Gardens' Collections

Explore Smithsonian Gardens’ archival, living plant and museum artifact collections! The Archives of American Gardens provides access to over 50,000 records related to visual resources that document the history of gardens in America. Smithsonian Gardens’ Living Plant Collections provides access to over 6,000 records related to orchids, trees, and display collections featured throughout the Smithsonian museum grounds and gardens surrounding the National Mall. The Horticultural Artifacts Collection provides access to over 1,300 records pertaining to objects that lend insight into the horticulture and floriculture trades primarily during the Victorian era (1837-1901) as well as numerous antique cast-iron garden furnishings exhibited throughout the Smithsonian gardens.
