Since 2010, the Smithsonian Gardens (SG) Green Team has championed sustainability and conservation efforts throughout our organization.  This grassroots group has been the impetus for so many positive and lasting changes at SG.  The team was developed to advance sustainability programs and operations that support the mission of SG. The Green Team identifies opportunities for “going green” and educates SG staff and the public about sustainability in its many forms.

Among its many projects, the Green Team has supported initiatives like the installation of the Bee Lawn at the National Museum of Natural History, Monarch Butterfly Migration Tagging, and a Soils Management Plan that lays out a comprehensive way to ensure the health of the soil used in the many gardens and landscapes.  These programs and the people behind them all contribute to SG’s progress towards its goals of sustainability and conservation.
